Day trip today to the Ring of Kerry, a rugged rocky peninsula near Killarney. Saw lots of beautiful scenery and visited the Kerry Bog Village, showing the lives and homes of those who cut peat bog. One cottage was built with room for the animals at one end and the family at the other!
There were many crumbling stones cottages along the way, most abandoned during the potato famine when the families fled to the cities or to America. The ruin with the walls propped up is the birthplace of Irish hero Daniel O’Connor.
We've enjoyed our time here in Killarney and the weather has cooperated quite well - there's been some rain but it usually stops and the sun comes out just when we need it to!

The images I have from the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula are the most beautiful and lasting I have of Ireland - so glad you guys get to experience it all!
ReplyDeleteI love that those old ruins are still there. Would never find that in America where its torn down as soon as it is "used up"!
